Gudrun Kristjansdottir's personal view on nature evolves around her research on the constant weather changes in Iceland. She has collected numerous impressions of those changes as they can be read in the landscape – unique but impermanent patterns, prosaic imprints created by drifting snow, rain and fog. In her installations she reworks these impressions in various media; painting on walls, windows, and canvases, as well as using photos, prints, videos and music to create an ambient environment and also to highlight the complex relationship between art and nature, perception and reproduction of the perpetual movement of nature.
Gudrun Kristjansdottir (1950) lives in Reykjavik. She studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Aix-en-Provence in South of France in the seventies. Since then she has developed the ancient technique of painting which involves layering and then she has developed that technique further using video and merging different other medias. She has participated in numerous group shows and many private exhibitions around the world and has worked on various big projects and been on committees and received awards and grants for her art. In 2005 Gudrun received a grant from the respected Pollock-Krasner fund.
