Pia Boda is a Musician and Composer and was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. She graduated as a Saxophone player and Music Teacher from The Rhythmic Conservatory in
Copenhagen where she met the Italian guitar player Marco Spallanzani. Their collaboration led to the release of the CD "Gone for a Walk" in 1997.
Pia Boda just finished recording CD “Chasing Pixies” which features the Japanese piano player Makiko Hirabayashi and the CD will be released during summer 2015. All compositions made by Pia
and the setup is tenor/soprano saxophone, piano, bass and drums. Her music is characterized by a strong melodic sense and works in between structure and improvisation, also inspired by free
improvisation.
Besides this project, Pia continues working with Pia Boda & Marie Wärme duo, which was founded in November 2013, after Donne in Musica’s invitation to write and present a new work in
Italy.
As a member of the composers group "Toneart", Pia Boda periodically has the chance to write experimental music for different formations. Her most recent work was performed in Nov 2014 for
saxophone quartet, featuring the internationally acclaimed percussion player and composer Marylin Mazur.
Besides performing and writing in various genres in the improvisers field, Boda is an educator at The Rhythmic High School and at MGK, Ishøj. preparing talented students, striving for a future
life as musicians.
