When the Icelandic-German composer Steingrimur Rohloff was awarded the Bernd-Alois-Zimmermann-Prize of the City of Cologne in Germany the jury described his music as such: "of an original fantasy... a virtuos technique in the treatmant of the orchestra... melodical invention... exciting sound-colours..."

Born in 1971 in Reykjavik, Iceland Steingrimur Rohloff studied composition with Krzysztof Meyer at the "Musikhochschule Köln" and at the “Conservatoire national superieur de Paris” and the IRCAM with Gérard Grisey, Marco Stroppa, Laurent Cuniot and Marc-André Dalbavie.

Steingrimur Rohloff has received numerous prizes for his compositions. His works stretches from orchestral works (SOL, GRAVITATION, Saxophone Concerto, Clarinet Concerto) to chamber-, and electronic music, which has been performed worldwide in more than 25 countries.

Recently Rohloff has developed an interest for music-theatre. After an adaptation of H.C. Andersens "Story of a mother" and "Medea" his recents stage-works are the chamber opera THE MOTION DEMON (for the danish Figura Ensemble, libretto: Sjón), and TIMESHIFT for the Stadttheater Münster.

Recent projects include as well collaborations with the Ensemble Modern, Dresden Sinfonietta, the Californian Empyrian Ensemble and festivals like “Wien Modern” and “Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival”.
