THURIDUR JòNSDòTTIR

Thuridur Jónsdóttir is an Icelandic composer and flutist.  Her work includes music for solo instruments, ensembles, and orchestra. Some of them are accompanied by electronic sounds or field recordings, some even with the participation the audience, others with some theatrical interaction.  In that regard we might mention for example INNI - musica da camera for baroque violin and sound curtains of an infant murmur,  Jakabossa Joga for flute with the participation of the audience,  Flutter, for flute, orchestra and field recordings of insects, Flow and fusion for manipulated orchestra and Eyja for ensemble with an unseen director.

After studying composition at the Reykjavík Conservatory of Music Thuridur moved to Italy, studying composition with Cristina Landuzzi, Giovanni Verrando and Lelio Camilleri, receiving diplomas in flute, composition and electronic music from the Bologna Conservatory. Furthermore she attended the summer course held by Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and attended the composition course with Alessandro Solbiati at the Accademia di Novara. Her main flute teacher was Annamaria Morini.

Compositions by Jónsdóttir have been commissioned and performed by such ensembles as LA Philharmonic Orchestra, Iceland Symphony, Caput Ensemble, Adapter, FontanaMix and Curious Chamber Players and by the institutions Radio France, NOMUS, Westdeutscher Rundfunk and Norddeustcher Rundfunk. Her work has been performed at festivals Présences in Paris, Dark Music Days in Reykjavik, Klang Festival in Copenhagen, Nordic Music Days, ISCM and New Directions.  She was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Price in 2006, 2010 and 2012
