Carina Burman (b. 1960) is a Swedish writer and academic.
Her writing encompasses both fiction and fact. She has written eight novels – most of them historical and many of them translated. She has also written three major biographies – of the 19th century novelist Fredrika Bremer, of the literary critic Klara Johanson and of the early 20th century actor Gösta Ekman (s:r).
Carina Burman’s latest book Vi romantiska resenärer (2016) is a study on the journalist, translator and writer Ellen Rydelius and her guidebook Rom på 8 dagar (1927), mixing biography with literary analyses and analyses the conceptions of Rome in the 20th century and today.
Her current project is a biography of the 18th century poet Carl Michael Bellman, who could also be described as a singer-songwriter or as an early stand-up comedian.
Burman is attached to the Department of Literature at Uppsala University. She lives in Uppsala, is married and has three grown-up children. Her CV includes more than 400 publication.
