Elisabet Ljungar

Elisabet Ljungar, born 1958 in Simrishamn, is a director, librettist and playwright. After many years as professional musician, since 1999 Elisabet Ljungar works as an opera and theatre director in a variety of dramatic genres; from baroque to completely new works in opera, musical, cabaret and spoken theater.

She writes and translates screenplays and librettos and is a member of the Writers Guild of Sweden.

Elisabet Ljungar was the founder and artistic leader of the chamber opera company TeaterTravers (2001-2012), whose aim was to spread music drama to a new and wider audience.

Mats Larsson Gothe’s opera “Blanche and Marie”, directed by Elisabet Ljungar, was nominated Best World Premiere in International Opera Awards 2015.

She currently holds an appointment as Artistic Leader and Manager of the Music Department at Scenkonst Västernorrland in Sundsvall.
