KARL ÁGÚST ÚLFSSON is an Icelandic playwright, screenwriter, lyricist and translator. In his career of nearly 40 years he has written close to 20 plays and musicals for the stage, about 500 episodes of television comedy, published books of short stories as well as textbooks for elementary and middle school and translated over 100 pieces of literature, plays, novels and children’s books.
Karl has received several awards for his work, including the Edda awards (Icelandic film academy awards), the Grima (Icelandic theatre awards), The Icelandic Education Awards and a special recognition by the Icelandic Language Committee. He was the honorary artist of the city of Garðabær in 2007.
Karl is also a teacher of playwriting and creative writing, and has taught at various classes for professionals as well as amateurs in Iceland, the Faroe Islands and the United States.
Karl is currently the president of the Writers Union of Iceland.
